Fair access to technology futures
Building on the success of CyberFirst and TechFirst, MEGA Hubs are place-based technology enrichment programmes that connect young people with industry, emerging technologies and future career opportunities. They give students access to experiences and technologies beyond the core curriculum while bringing together schools, employers and local partners to inspire future pathways into digital and technology careers.
Our Mission
To support talented students who may be at risk of underachieving, due to disadvantage, neurodiversity and a lack of social capital, through a bespoke technology enrichment programme. This will help them secure the best career destinations, enabled by academic attainment, technology skills and professional networks.
Opportunities in tech
- Digital and technology careers are growing, with 30,000 jobs in cyber (+18,000) by 2035 in the North West alone. This includes technical and non-technical roles.
Gender in tech
- Only 21% of those choosing Computer Science in 2023 were female. This is replicated in the cyber industry, with only 17% being female and only 14% filling senior-level positions.
Diversity in tech
- 25% of cyber professionals are from ethnic minority backgrounds.
Overlooked talent
- Highly able pupil premium pupils typically achieve half a grade less than their advantaged peers.
Missing talent
- 15% of highly able pupils who score in the top 10% nationally at the age of 11 fail to achieve in the top 25% at GCSE.

MEGA Events
MEGA Events are inspiring large-scale experiences for Year 8 and Year 9 girls, designed to expose young people to the opportunities available across digital and technology careers and raise aspirations for their future. Hosted in iconic regional venues, they bring together industry leaders, employers and technology professionals who provide first-hand insight into how emerging technologies are used in the workplace, while acting as role models and advocates for careers in tech.
MEGA Days
MEGA Days are immersive, employer-led enrichment experiences that introduce young people to frontier technologies, including AI, cyber security, robotics, data and other emerging fields. Delivered in schools and local college settings, they give students the opportunity to explore the capabilities of technology through hands-on challenges and real-world industry insight, sparking curiosity, building confidence and opening up future education and career pathways.

For schools, TechFirst helps young people develop tech skills, get confident with AI and explore frontier technology careers. It is committed to widening access, representation and opportunity in the tech sector, with regional delivery shaped around local labour market needs, school networks, local authorities, employers and community organisations.
